Jackson Township homes for sale is located in Butler County in Western Pennsylvania. The boroughs of Zelienople, Harmony and Evans City lie in the boundaries of Jackson Township but are all separate.
Jackson Township was established in 1854 from portions of Cranberry Township and Connoquenessing Township. It was named for President Andrew Jackson.
Harmony was created in 1805 by George Rapp and his followers. They organized the Harmony Society. Members came from Germany. Harmony was incorporated as a borough in 1838.
Zelienople was developed in the early 1800’s by Detmar Basse, who named the town after his daughter, Zelie. Zelienople was incorporated as a borough in 1840.
People who settled in Zelienople and Harmony here were largely German and Pennsylvania Dutch. The Evans City Cemetery located in Jackson Township was the cemetery used in the film, “The Night of the Living Dead”.
Jackson Township has seen more residential, commercial and retail development in recent years as Cranberry Township continues to grow. UPS and Fedex have local distribution warehouses located within the township.
On the southern border lies Cranberry Township and to the southeast Adams Township. Children attend Seneca Valley School District.
